Objective: Senior Linux Administrator to support 24/7 environment.
Description: In addition to the responsibilities listed below, this position is responsible for having in-depth knowledge of supporting, configuring, and monitoring UNIX/Linux operating systems, and managing escalations and interdepartmental communication.Some of the unique challenges this position will face include maintaining service level agreements in a heavily customized environment with a very large enterprise scale, and managing interdependencies with other teams and providers.

• Supports the stability, availability, and performance of enterprise systems (e.g., systems, applications, network, databases, storage, security) by performing complex systems analysis to identify problems, trends, and opportunities for improvement.
• Provides first and second level support for enterprise systems and systems in one or more additional IT domains by diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving complex incidents to minimize system issues.
• Escalates unresolved or critical issues, risks or problems to management.
• Plans and performs complex system configuration.
• Participates in installs, upgrades, or decommissions of designated systems, products, and infrastructure.
• Creates documentation of new and existing system configuration and procedural information, and ensures system configurations documentation is complete and accurate.
• Plans the implementation of hardware and software changes into environments and one or more additional IT production environments by performing impact analyses of system changes.
• Participates in and influences change management processes.
• Defines the maintenance, modification, and documentation of complex and advanced applications.
• Supports the development of guidelines to prevent and/or resolve recurring problems.
• Recommends and executes performance tuning and optimization activities.
Skill Set:
- Knowledge about Solaris, BSD, or various flavors of Linux
- Knowledge of Python, Perl, Ruby or more, but need to be proficient in at least one of them
- Hands-on experience of system management, system setup and managing Linux or Solaris based servers as well as configuring them
- Knowledge in shell programming and architecture is valued very much (Bourne or Korn or any shell)
- Storage technologies like FC, NFS or iSCSI is great, while knowledge regarding backup technologies is a must
- Knowledge in testing methodologies like Subversion or Git a plus, while knowledge of version control is also an advantage
- Knowledge of Puppet and Chef can be a plus
- Skills with system and application monitoring tools like SNMP or Nagios or any monitoring tool
- Knowing how to operate virtualized VMWare server - An ITIL Foundation certification will be a plus
