| Job Description: |
Key Responsibilities
- Develops strategic and tactical plans for developing and maintaining corporate databases
- Develops baseline and system models to monitor DBMS and processing performance
- Coordinates enhancements and upgrades with other IT groups
- Develops capacity planning standards, monitors capacity metrics and balances present and future capacity requirements
- Keeps abreast of latest technologies and trends and makes recommendations for incorporation when appropriate
- Conduct regular Performance Tuning and Query Optimization using Performance Monitor, SQL Profiler and other related monitoring and troubleshooting tools
- Troubleshoot and resolve database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, replication issues, log shipping issues, connectivity issues, security issues etc. along with detect and troubleshoot SQL Server related CPU, memory, I/O, disk space and other resource contention problems
- Implement operational automation
- Documents database processes and procedures (such as creating KBs, runbooks, topology, etc.)
- Conduct SQL Development – ability to write and troubleshoot SQL Code (stored procs, functions, tables, views, triggers, indexes, constraints and other scripting languages)
- Weekly and monthly status reports to higher management
- Participate in business meetings with various stake holders
- Take corrective actions based on surveys and incidences
- Ensures problem resolution by initializing and tracking problem assignments and initiates escalation as appropriate to the next level of support personnel or vendors
Required Skills
- 6+ years of experience required as a database administrator
- Experience required in reporting, forecasting, capacity planning, and implementing database solutions across multiple platforms
- Experience required in backups, restores, recovery models, database shrink operations, DBCC commands, clustering, database mirroring, replication, indexing and performance tuning
- Experience working on third party DBA tools and applications
- Analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
- Logical, efficient & proactive
- Ability to effectively communicate ideas
- Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
- Comfortable with ambiguity and possess an ability to adapt quickly and easily. Ability to analyze complex problems and move them to resolution
- Background and style that elicits respect in the organization through style of engagement, technical depth, customer service and results
- Positive attitude and ability to build strong relationships within the company and with external partners.
